November 14th: Honduras to Nicaragua

At the Nicaragua border. Brian’s expression in the background fully explains it.

Crossing Borders

We woke bright and early and headed to the Nicaragua border. The ride to the border was picture-perfect, with nice windy roads through the mountains.

Border crossings are tough. Every country has different rules, requirements, and policies. Some are very confusing, others are pretty straightforward. These last few border crossings have been extremely confusing. We arrived at the Honduras border around 11 am and checked out of the country, and then headed to the Nicaragua border. Lots of paperwork and waiting around. Lots of waiting!

Nicaragua so far is a beautiful and pristine-looking country. Excellent road conditions, with easy windy roads that are very fun to ride.

We stopped in Esteli, Nicaragua for the night and stayed at a hostel. This town reminds me of the French Quarter in New Orleans - lots of cafes, hotels, and bars and narrow streets. Lots of young people wandering around. There are also a lot of motorcycles around - mostly small 250cc bikes with killer suspensions. Our bikes completely stand out as abnormal!

131 miles today, and we crossed the Honduras-Nicaragua border.
