November 17th: The Nicaragua/Costa Rica border

Trying to stay hydrated while waiting hours in the heat to cross the border.

Nine hours to cross the border

89-degree heat with 90 percent humidity. Nine hours at the Nicaragua/Costa Rica border and we finally got across. I’m a hot mess, hungry, extremely exhausted, and mentally drained.

From 7 am to 8 am, we were able to complete most of our exit paperwork from Nicaragua. Then they shut the Costa Rica border to vehicles. People were allowed to walk across. Around noon there were rumors of it opening up for vehicles. By 2 pm they finally started allowing vehicles to cross one by one, and finish our exit paperwork.

We each had to cross individually to Costa Rica through military and police blockades. Around 3 pm we all finally made it over and began our Costa Rica immigration paperwork. And by 4 pm we were done and out our way.

Today was the first time since Sunday that they were allowing people to cross the border. I am thankful we all made it and are finally here in Costa Rica!

75 miles today.
