November 6th & 7th: One week on the road

Home in a small village on the Mexico-Guatemala border

Chickens roaming the streets near the Mexico-Guatemala border

We have been on the road for a week!

Friday we rode into the mountains. The terrain is changing. The scent of pine fills the air - something I was not expecting in Mexico.

As we climbed in altitude, we were met by cooler temperatures and scattered rain. The weather changes quickly!

The roads are getting windy, making for some fun and exciting riding. We stopped for the night in a small town called Nuevo Zinacantán. We ventured into town to explore and had such a fun dinner at a local restaurant where we met the entire family.

Saturday we rode towards the Guatemalan border. We arrived around 2 pm and decided to get a hotel on the Mexican side and cross first thing in the morning. We went for a long walk into town and chatted with many locals. Everyone is curious about who we are, where we are from, and where we are going. I don't think they have ever seen a Harley before, and certainly not a woman riding one.

Mexico has been a wonderful experience. I have never felt threatened or scared at all. Quite the opposite. Everyone is welcoming, friendly, and kind. I really love Mexico and am thankful to travel through the country this way! The people are a true example of patience, acceptance, kindness, and love.

Dirty Larry is handling it extremely well. I scrapped the floorboards a few times today in the turns! The first time it happened, it startled me but gave me a good reminder that I'm leaning into the turns just right :)

315 miles in the last two days. Tomorrow we are going to Guatemala. From the map, it looks like a ride like nothing I've done before. I can't wait!!
