Dark Photography: A Recap of the Carnival Macabre Halloween Party

I had the privilege of working with Mr. Black Presents on their annual Halloween Party. The 2024 theme, Carnival Macabre, showcased incredible costumes and characters.

As a photographer capturing this event, lighting is always a unique challenge. Here are a few things that I have learned about lighting:

  • First, utilize ambient lighting, such as backlights or festive decorations, to create a natural glow.

  • Second, experiment with off-camera flash to add depth and highlight subjects without overpowering the scene.

  • Third, consider using long exposure settings to capture movement and light trails, which can add a dynamic element to your photos.

  • Lastly, remember to adjust your camera's ISO settings to balance exposure and reduce noise in low-light situations.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the night.
