Review: BurnJacket protective leg sleeve from motorcycle exhaust

You can hardly tell I am wearing my burn jacket protective leg sleeve

Big Blue is my 2013 Harley-Davidson CVO Road King. While its air-cooled twin cam 110 engine, dual exhausts, and Screaming Eagle intake allow me to cruise effortlessly at 85mph for hours on the open road, the bike throws a lot of heat onto my lower right leg.

Knee-high socks and long riding pants work for short day-trips around town. I knew I needed a better solution for a long trip I’d be taking soon and I did not want to pay for expensive modifications.

After an extensive online search leading me to dive deep into online forums, I stumbled on BurnJacket. This leg protector is made of a breathable, spandex-like material that slips over your calf, lined with a rubbery heat protectant in a honeycomb shape.

The affordable price ($40 on Amazon) made it an extremely easy option to try out. I ordered one and, in typical Amazon Prime fashion, it arrived promptly the next day.

They come in various sizes. Mine is 12.5 inches and 16.5 inches in circumference, which snugly fits around my calf.

The company also offers their BurnJacket PRO, which expands and contracts to fit a calf between 13.5 inches and 18 inches in circumference.

Wearing socks under the BurnJacket protective leg sleeve

I wore the BurnJacket on my right leg over my knee-high socks and under my jeans for my latest trip. We traveled over 5,000 miles through varied terrain and weather conditions, and for the first time, I did not burn my right calf. I also hiked a fair amount in the mountains, and the BurnJacket stayed in place all day long. I hardly knew it was there until it was time to take off my gear and relax for the evening. About halfway through the trip, I washed it with the rest of my clothes at a local laundromat, and it survived without any blemishes or issues.

Honestly, I wish I would have purchased a BurnJacket sooner. This product truly lived up to its promise. I am so glad I found BurnJacket and did not have to modify Big Blue to protect my skin.
