Day 1 of "The Biggest Baddest Bike Trip"

Staying the first night at this old school motel off Route 66 in Missouri

We left at what was supposed to be at sunrise, ended up taking much longer than anticipated to get on the road. Shutting down a house for several months during Wisconsin winter had us double and triple checking we were good to go.

Two key things summarize today:

First, Dirty Larry (my bike’s name) can go exactly 146 miles at 85 mph on one tank of gas. And by one tank, I mean down to the last drop of fuel!

Luckily, Brian had filled his reserve bottle of gas at the first gas stop of the day and we could get to the nearest gas station easily. In all my time riding I’ve never run out of gas like this before. I knew I was close. At least this happened now!

Second, 39 degrees and heavy fog is fucking cold. This morning was one of the coldest rides I’ve done in a while. Thankfully, mid morning the fog broke and the sun came out and warmed up to about 60 degrees the rest of the day.

In total, we rode 550 miles today. Really did not hit any major traffic and had a great first day! We found a great hotel off of legendary Route 66 in Lebanon, Missouri to call home for the night.
