November 20th: 4,000 miles so far…

We have been on the road now for 3 weeks, and today we flipped 4,000 miles into our trip.

For the last few days, we stayed in San Jose, Costa Rica to have service completed on our bikes at the Harley dealership - oil change, air filter cleaned, and new rear tire for me. They also cleaned our bikes, and they really did an excellent job. Dirty Larry never looked so good.

But, that comes with a price because every time that bike gets a thorough detail it rains. Today was no different. 

We left San Jose around 11 am and headed down CA-2 towards Parque Nacional Los Quetzales. It is a national park in the cloud forest. And it poured the entire time. I'm talking heavy rain and fog (clouds) on a curvy mountainous road.

Those who know me know I can ride in the rain. In fact, on my Road King at home, I have more miles on that bike in the rain than in good weather. Today, however, I could hardly see the road. As we climbed in altitude the clouds/fog got thicker and the rain got heavier.

And, today was the first time since leaving the US that I was cold.

I pulled over when we were around 10,000 feet up and had to put on gloves and another layer under my rain gear. I barely was able to see the sights because of the weather, but what I could see was amazing thick foliage.

We stopped for the night in Buenos Aires, Costa Rica, which is about 2 hours from the Panama border. I didn’t take many pictures again because my mind was on the road!
